COMMON RUNNING INJURIES
Over the years i have worked with many clients who have had these issues and myself have had many of them. Endurance athletes or beginners trying to get very fit (half marathons etc) are the people most likely to get them.

1. Anterior tibial stress sundrome (teninopathy)
WHAT IS IT? Tendonitis of the anterior tibialis. Pain along shin bone
CAUSE: Damage to the tendon usually from over use, doing too much too soon.
REHAB: Rest, Foot flexion exercises and massage.

2. Tibia Stress Fracture
WHAT IS IT: A fracture to the bone that happens gradually over time. pain in shin bone
CAUSE: Over training, hard surfaces

3. Compartment Syndrome
WHAT IS IT: Pain in back of lower leg
CAUSE: Reduction or ceasing of blood floor to the smaller deep compartment muscles of the lower leg during exercise caused by tight muscles/fascia or swelling due to increased blood flow to the area.
REHAB: surgery, Massage and mobility exercises of the lower leg/ankle

4. Plantafascitis
WHAT IS IT? Pain in the arch and or heel of the foot caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia
CAUSE: over use injury.
REHAB: Rest, massage

5. Cuboid Syndrome/Subligation
WHAT IS IT: Pain in the side/top of the foot, caused by subligation of the cuboid bone
CAUSE: Over training,
REHAB: Rest, Rest and more rest.

6. Achilies tendonitis
WHAT IS IT? Pain in the lower calve/heel due to inflammation of the tendon
CAUSE:Over training or insufficient warm up, change of surface

7. Runners knee - PFPS - Patellefemoral pain sundrome
WHAT IS IT? Pain in the knee cap
CAUSE: Muscle imbalance/dysfunction (Vastus Lateralis being stronger than the Vastus Medialis) causing knee cap to move slightly and causing inflammation
REHAB: Address imbalances by Performing stretching, mobility and strength exercises to return normal function. See someone for this!
