Squatting - The myth that is...
Social media is great. The internet allows us to share information which is fantastic, if the information is correct. but what if the information isn't correct, or is only partial truth.
If you have been on face book lately you will thousands of photos of very toned women's backsides. The reason for these toned backsides is apparently squats. which leads one to ask a question if all of these women squat, where? because most places people exercise (gym, parks) you wont find one woman doing it.
The secret is squats.
Forget diet or fitness
Forget your leg extension and curls, forget glute machines, and hyper extension (with leg spread) all of these exercises do nothing, you MUST squat.
The Simple fact is that is NOT TRUE. Many of the women you will know who have nice posteria's DO NOT SQUAT. They got their toned bum's from playing sports, doing circuit classes or from their mother.
If i named the top ten female bottoms out of all the women i know personally, none of them have ever squatted!!! well no more than they have bicep curled and certainly not half as much as they have done sit ups or fitness work.
So why do their bums look great.
1) they havent got huge amounts of FAT covering it
2) they have toned and relatively large bum/glute muscles (through a variety of exercises)
I'M A FAN OF SQUATS
No really i am, i've put that out there now in large, bold, italic, underlined Font that is over sized to show my love for squatting. I really am a fan of squats. I'm just not a fan of misleading people.
I have female clients who are 50+ yrs old who squat 40kg on the Olympic bars down to 90 degree's. i have three other female clients who squat 45-50kg down to parralel. I also take a class on sat morning designed for women and men where the WHOLE emphasis is on squatting, and deadlift, and push presses, and one arm bb squat presses, and clean and jerks (basically every variety of squat there is) and they have to lift big. Lift to your ability, as you get better you will lift more.
Squatting is great and more importantly it is great for your bum.
8 reasons to SQUAT
1) Cardio Zone training - If you do high reps (15-20 reps) with a big weight your heart rate will go higher than most people on the treadmill apaprently doing their cardio.
2) Cardio exercise, esp when mixe dwith other exercises in circuit, bootcamp etc
3) Stability of the ankle, knee and hip joints,
4) Strengthening the lower back muscles
5) Correction of postural imbalances
6) Mobility of the joints
7) Flexibility of the muscles
.............and its also great for your BUTT
But it isn't going to make your bum look like these model photographs, regardless of how heavy or how many you do. it will make it firmer, and make it a little bigger (rounding it) but it certainly wont look like those photos.
UNLESS...
1) you already almost look like those girls
2) you combining it with weight loss & fitness
Take a look at most of the women who you see in these photos. Half of them are personal trainers or professional fitness models. meaning they get paid to eat good and workout. 2 sometimes 3 times a day!
The other half tend to be ever so slightly beautiful. You know the ones with everything just in the right proportions, not too much not too little fat not too much muscle not too little. They're the lucky ones of the normal folk who throughout their life, conciously or not have always had the right balance of fat, carbs and calories combined with mother natures storing it all in the right places. when was the last time you saw a fitness model without a boob job. to have great abs and great bum if you not one of the lucky blessed ones, means stripping you body fat right down and in general this includes a massive reduction in bust size.





A lovely bum but too good to be true. the word photo shop springs to mind, especially when you look at the fact her waist is smaller than one thigh. Not many people can fit all those organs in there when your waist is that small
